Jane Rourke Obituary

Jane M. (Davock) Rourke, 92, of North Syracuse, passed away Wednesday with her loving family at her side. She was born in Hoosick Falls, NY. She was a dedicated communicant of St. Augustine’s Church of Troy, NY and St. Rose of Lima Church of North Syracuse, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, James F. Rourke of Albany and her son, Kevin of Syracuse. She was also predeceased by her parents Frank and Jen Davock and brother Bernard Davock, all of Hoosick Falls, NY.

She is survived by her children; Richard, Robert, James (Carmela), Michael (Sally), Eileen Cook (Kevan) and Brian (Jennifer); 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister Margaret ‘Peg’ Crucetti and brother Thomas Davock, sister-in-law Margaret Colfer; and many nieces and nephews.

Jane grew up in bucolic Hoosick Falls, NY in the Clay Hill area and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1943, going on to work briefly as a telephone operator before marrying her husband, James, and moving to the Troy, NY area in 1948. But her real calling was as a loving wife, mother and homemaker for her large family. The Rourke family grew in Lansingburgh, NY where the children attended St. Augustine’s School, reinforcing Jane’s deep faith. She and her family later moved from Lansingburgh to North Syracuse, NY in 1973.

Jane loved music and attended countless Broadway musicals with her husband in NYC after their children grew older. She loved to dance as well, often staying on the dancefloor all night long wearing out her sons, daughter, and any other willing participants. She enjoyed traveling throughout the US and Europe and visited Ireland twice. She was always active and enjoyed her daily walks well into her 80’s. Jane had many friends and enjoyed deep relationships with them over the course of her life.  Above all, her family was the most important.

Throughout her illness her family was the beneficiary of outstanding daily companionship, support, and love of her caregivers; Renee, Polly, Christine, and Jackie. We would be remiss without recognizing the sustained presence and support of her son,Bob Rourke and her daughter Eileen Cook , which enabled Jane to remain in the comfort of her home through her final years.

Funeral services are Tuesday at 9:30am in Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home and 10:00am in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4-7pm at the funeral home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer’s Assn, CNY Chapter, 441 W.
