Robert W. Lewis, 97 formerly of Syracuse, passed away June 22, 2019, surrounded by family in Maryland. Bob was born Dec. 6, 1921. He is survived by three children, Karlene A. (Tom) Lewis-Parker of Maryland, Carol J. Lewis-Hess of Syracuse, and Robert J. Lewis of Maryland; Three grandchildren, Teri, Jeffery, and Jarett Parker of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Nellie “Helen” Cavallaro-Lewis, his parents, Albert N. Lewis and stepmother Ruth Lewis, and siblings Vernice Cebeniak and Richard Lewis. In Mar. 1940, Bob enlisted in the US Army. He served in the WW II Central Pacific Theater from 1942 through 1945, engaged in the Bismarck-Archipelago and Luzon Campaign’s, where he was awarded both the Philippine Liberation Service Medal with one bronze star and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He was a very proud WW II Veteran. He began his career at Carrier Air Conditioning in 1951 and retired from there in 1981. Bob loved the outdoors, camping and traveling with his family to Canada and Mexico. He retired to Port Charlotte Florida for 24 years before moving to Rockville, MD. A mechanic at heart always fixing things, he enjoyed working on engines and later in Florida on golf course equipment. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
Funeral Services are Monday at 9:30 AM in Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home and 10:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in North Syracuse. Burial will follow at St Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling Hours are 6-8 PM Sunday at the funeral home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY.
