Virginia L. (Wood) Tompkins

Virginia L. Tompkins, 87, of Liverpool passed away peacefully on January 6, 2019 at Francis House.

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, John and Mildred (Robinson) Wood, her husband of 43 years, Edward Tompkins, and her son, Kevin Tompkins.

She is survived by her daughter Sherry Nugent of Liverpool, son Edward Jr. of Las Vegas, NV, son Brian and his wife Irfana of Van Buren; her sister, Marilyn Walsh of Stafford, VA., her grandchildren, Jason Nugent, Kevin Tompkins II of Liverpool, Bradin Tompkins of Van Buren, Edward Tompkins Jr. of Las Vegas, NV., Alyssa Huggins of Yucaipa, CA., Brandon Rauls, Janelle Flora of California, and her nephews and grandnieces.

As a lifelong resident of Syracuse, NY, Virginia’s career was in the retail industry including 16 years for Switz’s in North Syracuse. Her hobbies included gardening, shopping, and rooting for her favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees, Syracuse Orange, and Green Bay Packers. She enjoyed spending time with her beloved Shih-poo, Mollie, as well as watching her favorite television shows and keeping up-to-date on current events.

Those close to Virginia will remember her as compassionate, kindhearted, and selfless. In the days, weeks, months, and years ahead, they will celebrate, not mourn, Virginia’s life and reminisce with gratitude the memories they were able to create with such an amazing person.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to Hospice of CNY and Francis House for their care during the last months of her life.

A private graveside service will be held at Belle Isle Cemetery at a future date. Contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue Syracuse, New York 13208.
