Abdul Shad Obituary

Abdul Rashid Shad, otherwise known as A.R. Shad, or, “Ibbi”, completed his journey on earth and went to heaven on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the beautiful age of 91.

Ibbi was born in Punjab, Pakistan in 1930 and was the son of the respected B.M. Shad and Resham Shad. He served in the Pakistan Air Force from 1948-1973. He was the best athlete and a National level hockey player in the Air Force.
He married the lovely Iris Shad in 1956. If you asked him what the greatest gift of his life was, he would proudly respond with, “my wife Iris.” Unfortunately, she passed in 1982. Not a day went by that he did not miss her.
After his wife’s passing, he successfully cared for his five children alone, helping them get on their feet and establish beautiful families of their own.

In 2009, he came to live in the United States with his daughter Rachel and her kids. He was very happy to be reunited with his daughter and grandkids in a new country. Ibbi and Rachel shared a very special bond because of this time together, especially since this was shortly after Rachel’s husband Norman had passed. He gave a solid foundation to Rachel and her kids and filled their home with joy.
Ibbi was a humble man with a quiet confidence. He had a creative soul and enjoyed singing, writing, and reading. He also had a love for sports that was unmatched. When he wasn’t watching an event on television, you could find him reading about one while sipping on a cup of tea. He was also quite the history buff. Sitting down with him, you would never walk away without learning something new. He was thirsty for knowledge up until his last days.

Ibbi had a contagious smile and was always making people laugh around him, especially his grandchildren. He would always remind you his last name, Shad, meant “happy”. His favorite quote which he repeated nearly every day was: “Tomorrow Never Comes”. This was surely a testament to his life. Anything that could be done today, should be done today. He lived his life fully knowing tomorrow was not promised, and happily making the best of each day. Navigating through with love and laughter.
Abdul Rashid Shad is survived by his five children, Arshad, Esther, Elizabeth, Rachel, and Akhtar. His legacy will be continued by his 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
