Barbara Andrews Bishop

Barbara Andrews Bishop, age 88, of Cicero, passed away on 9-14-2023 at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born in Syracuse NY, to the late Esther Bishop and Edward Lawton Bishop. During her younger years she enjoyed many sports, including sailing and water skiing at their summer home on Cazenovia Lake. Barbara graduated from Fayetteville High School and graduated from Endicott College in Beverly Mass., with a degree in childhood education.

After college Barbara worked at Lincoln Bank in Syracuse as a teller. She married Thomas D. Ruthven in 1957 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Fayetteville. Barbara was president of the Syracuse Jaycettes in the 60’s, and president of the Columbiettes, #3717 in North Syracuse in the late 60’s. She was also employed by the Cicero North Syracuse School District as a school bus driver for 21 years before retiring.

Barbara is survived by her loving children – four daughters and one son: Deborah Johnson, Wendy (Michael) McHugh, Sharon (Richard) Almeida, Tracey (Nicholas, Sr.) DelVecchio, and Thomas Duffy (Debbie) Ruthven Jr.

She is also survived by her dear grandchildren: Jennifer, Tiffany, Amanda, Amy, Brianna, Alyssa, Nicholas, Jr., Monica, and Jimmy. Barbara is also survived by her special great grandchildren: Sydney, Avery, Everett, Hadley, Liliana, Payton, Rory, Jack, and Hudson.

Barbara would like to thank all of her family and friends for the wonderful care given to her during her later years; and the family would like to thank the staff at Iroquois Nursing Home especially, Daphne, Nina, Raj, Jimmy, and Alliyah for their excellent care and support during this difficult time.

Service will be privately held for the convenience of the family.
