Barbara (Haney) Ehlers, 86, of Jamesville, NY, passed away on March 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. After many years of working and raising her children, Barbara started her second ‘career’ as a volunteer at the American Red Cross for over 20 years. There she worked with Disaster Relief Services and Services to the Armed Forces, supporting our nation's military members and their families. She traveled nationally for disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 and won several awards for her service including “Volunteer of the Year”. In her spare time she started a local chapter of The Red Hat Society as “Queen Rhapsody”, with her good friend and co-queen, Emily Garrow, also known as “Queen Claret Plum”. They enjoyed many years fostering friendships and fun with all the ladies ‘of a certain age’ and their red hats. Barbara is pre-deceased by Raymond J. Haney Sr. (father), Emily Schinnen Haney (mother), Irene Haney (sister), Raymond Haney Jr. (brother), and Ellen Schninnen (aunt). She is survived by her children: Robert (Marcia) Ehlers, Redenne (Doug) Virgil, Bart Ehlers, Glenn (Laurie) Ehlers, Randy (Danielle) Ehlers; granddaughter: Emily (Kevin) Desousa; step-grandson: Collin (Jen) Ditch, and their children Emma and Matthew, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday April 11th at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home 209 N. Main Street North Syracuse, NY 13212. Visitation will be from 1PM-3PM. A funeral service will follow at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, Barbara requested donations to The Cpl. Kyle R. Schneider Foundation P.O. Box 8, Baldwinsville, New York 13027 or online here https://www.cplkyleschneider.com/.
