Carol Shaver Schiltz died on Monday, January 3rd at home surrounded by her family. She was 88 years old.
Carol was the finance director of Elmcrest Children's Center, Inc. for fifteen years prior to retiring in 1995. Carol enjoyed her home and working her gardens. She liked refurbishing furniture, redecorating and renovating. She always liked having a project. In her later years, Carol spent her time reading. She had a keen interest in politics, always looking out for the underdog and rarely missed an opportunity to respond to current issues and events. She liked to send rebuttals when she disagreed with a publication. Carol also enjoyed investing in the stock market, saying it was like going to Vegas, only better odds.
Carol is survived by her children, Mary (Mark) Schiltz-Hogan, Joseph (Rose) Schiltz, Paul (Lynette) Schiltz, Carolyn (David) Schiltz-O'Toole and Joan Schiltz; her sister, Mary Ann Sopchak, her brother, Paul (Phyllis) Shaver and her grandchildren, Jonathan, Shawn and Bailey and several nieces and nephews. Carol is predeceased by her son, Howard Schiltz. Her family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice caregivers, Patty, Naomi and Susan for their kindness and compassionate care for Carol and our family. Carol has donated her remains to Upstate Medical Anatomical Center.
In lieu of callings hours and a funeral, Carol's wishes were to have a friends and family gathering. This gathering will take place at Traditions at the Links in East Syracuse on Wednesday, January 19th, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of CNY or Public Broadcasting System (PBS) to preserve, support and promote a free press.
