Donald R. Swanson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald R. Swanson at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY on May 1st, 2020.  Donald was born on February 24th, 1952, the son of Donald H. and Lily Ungleich Swanson in Syracuse.  He resided for most of his life in North Syracuse with his family until he transitioned to living at the ARC residence on Carpenter Rd. in Radisson.  
 

Donald is survived by his mother, Lily, his sister Donna Steele of Bridgeport, NY, his brother Bruce (Juel) Swanson of Camden, NY and several nephews, a niece and their families, as well as his Carpenter Rd. family.  Donald was predeceased by his father and by his beloved grandfather Emil who he spent many weekends with.  Donald greatly enjoyed organizing his ropes, music and his vast record collection, and watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and the Lawrence Welk Show on television.  He appreciated time spent with his family and friends, especially when it involved a party with cake and ice cream or Pizza Hut. He attended a structured day program for most of his adult life and volunteered thousands of community service hours.  Donald’s smile and personality will be missed by all who knew him.  The family extends a special thanks to Carol Crandall, Donald’s longtime case worker and friend, and to all the staff at the Carpenter Rd. residence.  

Services on May 6, 2020 will be held at Sears-Middleton-Mathewson Funeral Home, N.Syracuse and will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the ARC of Onondaga in Donald’s memory.
