Fredrick Rufus Sears II, age 64, son of Kendrick (deceased) and Gracia Sears, passed away in Seattle following a stroke on June 10, 2024. He is survived by his mother Gracia, siblings Bruce (wife DeAnn), Bradley and Geoffrey (wife Ingrid), his nephews and nieces Madeline, Kyla, Kendrick, Emeline, Colton and Hannah and by his partner Kristine as well as by cousins, and close friends.
Fred graduated from Jamesville-Dewitt High School before moving to the Pacific Northwest to attend Western Washington University to complete a degree in Ecology. After moving away from the region for a brief time, he returned and made Bellingham his home for more than 40 years.
He lived his life in service to others, through his work as a mental health professional, working 30 years for Compass Health/Whatcom Counseling and Psychiatric Clinic. He also served as the president of the board of directors for Sun House which helped transition people with mental illness from homelessness to permanent housing.
Fred viewed the world through multiple lenses. As a photographer he used his camera to collect moments of people’s lives as they lived them. He was accomplished as a wildlife photographer with a focus on birds. He enjoyed the outdoors through camping, bow hunting, fly fishing and boating.
There will be no calling hours. Friends interested in contributing in his memory are encouraged to donate to the Whatcom Land Trust in Washington state or to Beaver Lake Nature Center in Baldwinsville, NY.
