James R. Greene Sr.

James R. Greene Sr, (81) of North Syracuse, NY passed away April 27th 2024 surrounded by family.  Jim was a courageous survivor who battled Multiple Myeloma for decades.   His life was well lived and he enjoyed meeting up with friends out and about and golfing with his buddy John.  He was a longtime supporter of Syracuse University football, basketball and lacrosse teams and the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees. Jim also enjoyed music and dancing to everything from the Rolling Stones to Waylon Jennings.   He was a capable and enthusiastic DYI handyman, coached area Little League baseball teams during his children’s youth, supported the booster club, and was an avid player of scratch off tickets and the lottery.

He leaves behind his wife Cindy, daughters Michele McGivney, Denise Greene (Wendy Ackerman), and stepdaughter Rachael Vermette. He is also survived by two granddaughters Hillary McGivney and Emily Gilmore and daughter in law Julie Greene, his brother Joe Greene (Carol) and Cousin Ginger Gedney, and was pre-deceased by his parents Henry and Leona and also by his brother Gary.  He was also pre-deceased by his son James “Jimmy” R. Greene Jr.

Services will be held Thursday May 2, 2024 at Sears-Middleton-Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street North Syracuse, NY. Calling hours are from 10:00am to 12:00pm followed by a service at 12:00pm. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery.  Donations in lieu of flowers can be made at in support of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation https://www.myeloma.org/
