It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Joan Riley, on December 2nd , 2025 at the age of 92.
Born on August 4, 1933 in Syracuse. Joan was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She dedicated her life to her family, friends and church.
Joan is survived by her children, Dennis (Kim), Mary Beth and Cathleen Smith (Mark), her grandchildren, Meg Riley and Emily and Ethan Smith, and her sister Nancy (Bill) Casler and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband James, her son Patrick, her parents, Patrick and Mary Walker, brothers Jack (Maureen) Walker and Jimmy (Joanne) Walker and sister Mary "Tish" (Dave) Gehres.
She loved our close knit neighborhood including the four legged neighbors that loved to visit.
A visitation will be held at Sears Middleton Mathewson on Manday December 8, 2025 from 4 lo 6pm.
A funeral mass will follow on Tuesday December 9, 2025 at 10am at St Rose of Lima church, with burial at St Mary's Cemetery in Dewitt, NY.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at The Cottages for their support and care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital Syracuse or your favorite Pet Charity in Joan's memory. Her memory will live on in all who loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
