Joanna (Jack) Wicks

Joanna Wicks, 85, died February 25, 2023. She was born February 27, 1937, to the late Austin and Ellen (Moulton) Jack in Alexander, New York. Joanna was pre-deceased by her husband, Richard, and her sisters, Barbara and Rebecca. Joanna was a graduate of the University of Buffalo School of Nursing. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital as a registered nurse in Syracuse for many years before retiring. After retiring, Joanna spent many hours caring for her grandchildren, reading at the family camp, traveling, bicycle riding, walking in the neighborhood and baking yummy treats for family and friends. Joanna enjoyed volunteering at the church “store” at the former Andrews Memorial United Methodist Church and N. Syracuse Meals on Wheels.

Joanna was a caring wife, mother and proud grandmother. She often wrote poems for family members and friends.

She is survived by her two daughters, Maureen (Sam) Sofia, Virginia Riley, three sons, Andrew (Linda) Wicks, Brian Wicks, and Daniel (Rebecca) Wicks; and her grandchildren: Evonne, Jonathon, Julianna, Bethany, Sarah, Kennedy, Aidan, Allison, Jacob, Katherine and great-granddaughter, Aaliyah.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street (Rte, 11), North Syracuse, NY.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Elderwood at Liverpool during Joanna’s last years.
