Obituary
Joanne Wilkie, 71, of Dewitt, passed away on October 1, 2021 with her loving family by her side after a long illness at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born April 7, 1950 in Syracuse, NY the daughter of Chester and Genevieve Filipski.
Joanne completed beauty school at Richard DeToto, was Vice President at Central Protective Alarms, and later worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Joanne married the love of her life, Steve Wilkie, in 2006. She loved going on road trips with her sisters and cousins and spending time with her grandson, Daxson, her greatest joy in life.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Tommy Filipski. Surviving in addition to her beloved husband, Steve, are her son, Derek Barnish; grandson and mother, Daxson and Amy Cohen; stepchildren and grandchildren, Karen Holbrook and Nickolus, Holly, and Andrew, Daryl (Alaidra) Wilkie and McKenzie and Hayden; brother, David (Margaret) Filipski; sisters, Mary Ellen (Damian) Ulatowski, Dorothy (Michael) Kindt and Diane Ulatowski; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Monday, October 4th from 4-7pm at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 Main St., North Syracuse. Funeral services are 10:00 AM Tuesday, October 5th at Assumption Church, 812 Salina St., Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be considered to Assumption Food Pantry or Transfiguration Church.
