It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John R. Hannon who passed away peacefully at his home on May 11, 2026. Born on May 27, 1931, John was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, NY. His military service brought him to Florida where he met the love of his life, Harriet Rabeck, in Miami. They were married shortly after, on February 20, 1954, and went on to share 72 wonderful years together before Harriet’s passing in February 2026.
John devoted his life to his family, becoming a provider from a young age. He spent 27 years with A&P until its closing, then continued his career with a local liquor distributor before joining the Syracuse University delivery services, where he later retired.
John and Harriet are survived by their three children: Julie Purcell, Linda Hannon, and Richard Hannon; as well as four grandchildren: Collin Purcell, Dylan Hannon, Logan Hannon, and Landon Hannon.
In their final two decades of retirement, John and Harriet were inseparable spending their days enjoying the local casinos and being part of the Bingo community.
John will forever be remembered for his humor, kindness, strength, work ethic and principles.
Please join us for a celebration of life May 28 from 5-7 p.m at Sears Middletown Mathewson Funeral Home
