John J. Hornick

John J. Hornick, 74, of Syracuse, passed away April 27, 2022. He was born in Syracuse and was a US Air Force veteran during Vietnam stationed both stateside and in Thailand. He graduated from CCBI on the GI Bill.

He was employed for 17 years by Knodel Wholesale Meats in the sales department and then retired after 15 years with FedEx Office. He found retirement boring after he discovered that a person could only play so much golf...a discovery he never expected to make. He then went to work at C.E.D.-Baldwin Hall for 5 years. He taught his grandsons, Hunter and Griffin how to fish. He liked music and absolutely loved Dolly Parton. He was a member of the Camillus Elks Lodge #2367 for 24 years. Family was very important to John which included friends in bowling, golfing partners and fishing buddies.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Knight Hornick and his sister, Jeanette Beard.

Survived by his wife, Jennie B. Lee; his son, Jason (Trudi) Hornick of Bronxville, NY; step-daughter, Catherine Lee Podolak (Michael) of Maryland; step-son, Kevin (Nancy) Greene of New Jersey; five grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Couchman of Tuscon, AZ.

Calling hours are Saturday May 7 from 10:30am-12pm at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse with a service to follow at 12pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
