Laura DeVita Obituary

Laura DeVita died peacefully on Columbus Day, October 13, 2025. Born Laura Rose LoCaputo in Coversano, Bari Italy in 1926. She emigrated to Syracuse NY with her parents Domenico and Caterina (DiVagno) LoCaputo, and her younger brothers- Michael and Anthony, all pre-deceased. She became a US Citizen when she was 10 years old. She graduated North High School in 1945 and married Army Air Force veteran Dominick DeVita in 1946. They were married for 62 years until his death in 2008.

Being dexterous and having acute eyesight, she worked as a decorator at Syracuse China and as an electronics technician at General Electric.

These skills also helped her compete in bocce league play at McChesney Park.

She is survived by her son Joseph of Webster NY and daughter Katherine Kennedy of Bridgeport NY; five grandchildren- Emily (Matthew) Dailor of Fairport NY, Anne (Lowell) Stringer of Greenville NY, Sarah Rose (David) Scott of Brentwood TN, Lisa Bower of Syracuse NY and Sean (Shannon) Kennedy of Brewerton NY; six great grandchildren- Gavin Dailor, Paige Dailor, Juniper Rose Scott, Winifred Stringer, Annaliese Bower, Wrenley Kennedy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A calling hour will be held on Saturday October 25th, 2025, at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home 209 N. Main Street North Syracuse, NY 13212 from 9:30-10:30 with a service immediately following. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery
