Lawrence Anthony Zello, 68, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away on May 16 after a long, courageous illness. He was a talented Executive Chef, a passionate sports enthusiast, and a devoted family man.
Lawrence dedicated his life to the culinary arts. He graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY, earning his Associate Degree in Culinary Arts and Catering. Early in his career, he worked side-by-side with renowned chef Anne Burrell at Daniel Webster’s in Syracuse, NY. His exceptional talent led him to innovate within American cuisine, serving as an Executive Chef and later bringing his expertise to the Compass Group.
Outside the kitchen, Lawrence was a fervent Syracuse University sports fan who frequently traveled to away games and tournaments. His love for sports extended to his business life as the former owner of a sports memorabilia shop and an avid card collector. Lawrence also shared a deep affection for his two beloved Siamese cats, Cleo and Corwyn.
He was predeceased by his parents, Rocco Richard and Jane Marie Zello, formerly of Liverpool.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Mary Ellen Harvey-Zello of Baldwinsville, NY. He also leaves behind his brother Christopher and sister-in-law Kim Lee Vollenweider Zello of Palmer, Alaska, along with his niece Janet and nephew Christopher; his brother Marc Anthony and sister-in-law Concetta Sortino Zello, and his nephew Rocco, all of Liverpool. He is additionally survived by many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 21 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, located at 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY. A brief ceremony will take place at the end of the calling hours at 7:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family highly encourages memorial donations to be made to the National Kidney Foundation in Lawrence's memory.
