Michael Middleton

Mike took his last breath on Sept. 12, 2022, in Austin, TX. He was a kind & generous person whose demeanor often confused people, especially when his dry sense of humor surfaced. Most of all he loved his family, cherished being dad to Peter & Katie, husband to Paula.

He moved to Austin in the mid 1970s after serving four years in the Air Force, then worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier and eventually a supervisor. He took early retirement when Peter & Katie were still in high school & middle school and began smiling more each day as he was able to spend more time with them and Paula. Mike’s health had suffered for several years and became more challenging with his diagnosis last May of a rare form of lymphoma. The cancer and associated treatment were very hard on him, as well as his family & friends. (details on the GoFundMe link below.) Mike was always appreciative of his various teams, and the family gives thanks to all of his caregivers, sponsors, and medical teams. Mike grew up in a large family in Syracuse and became part of an even larger family when he and Paula married.

He is survived by wife Paula Crumley Middleton; son Peter; daughter Katie; brothers Dan (Linda), Gary (Elena), Jerry (Patty); cousin, Billy (Julie) Girard, and many nieces and nephews. On the Crumley side he is survived by John (Carole), Fred (Margaret), Tom, Mark (Sylvia), Sandra (Steve) Kaiser, and many nieces & nephews. Mike was predeceased by parents Wilbur (Bill) and Ruth; sister, Patricia (Pam), and sister-in-law, Donna. Final arrangements are pending.

Calling hour will be August 26 from 10-11am with a service at 11am at Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse, NY.
