Richard “Dick” Currey, 88, of Norwich, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 after a brief illness while living at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chittenango, NY.
He was born June 6, 1929 in Poughkeepsie, New York to William and Harriet (Misner) Currey. He married Phyllis G. Mauer on Dec 31, 1977 and she survives. He is also survived by his children; James Currey (Millie) of Florida, Ruth Coffing (Larry) of Minnesota, David Currey (Karen), of New York, Lois Hutmacher of Minnesota, and Mark Currey of California. Also surviving are his brother Robert Currey, and brother-in-law James Rosscup, both of California, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife and mother of his children Beatrice (Green) Currey, and sister Mildred Rosscup (James) of California.
Richard lived an active life. He loved riding his motorcycle, participating in car rallies, and playing all sorts of sports, including basketball, baseball, squash, handball and bowling. He enjoyed roller skating so much that he and Phyllis were married on skates at the roller rink. Working outdoors, taking care of his yard and property, was a favorite pastime. On winter days he enjoyed putting together numerous jigsaw puzzles. He was a deacon at Toddsville Baptist Church and a leader in his community Boy Scouts. He attended Oneonta State College and worked as a meter tester for New York State Electric and Gas until his retirement. He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
Private service to be held for family. Burial at Plains Cemetery in Oneonta, NY.
