Shirley Mae Angwin (Snyder) passed away peacefully on December 27 at the age of 93 after a period of declining health. Born in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Clara (De Pan) and Philip Snyder. She was the wife of 62 years of the late Richard Angwin.
Shirley attended St. Brigid’s school in Solvay and then went on to a variety of careers including waitress, hairdresser, and bookkeeper. Shirley was a generous and tireless volunteer serving veterans, the church, and the elderly. She was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies’ Auxiliary where she held various offices. Shirley was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of crafts with her sisters who were her best friends. She had immovable faith and was able to find the positive in any situation and offer encouragement to others. She could make anyone laugh, and she enjoyed splitting a beer with whomever dropped by for a visit. She will be remembered by all who knew her as friendly, compassionate, and kind.
Shirley is survived by her children Linda Godard (Don) of Syracuse, Richard Angwin, Jr. of Rossville, GA, Gregory Angwin (Anne) of Cicero, Sandra Romero of Cincinnati, OH and Michelle Stilwell (Jim) of Hopkinton, MA, 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, her twin sister Beverly Francey and sister- in-law Grace Snyder as well as dozens of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her siblings Philip Snyder, Patrick Snyder and Carol Fall.
A private burial will take place on January 20, and then a memorial mass with celebration of Shirley’s life will be scheduled for some time in the spring.
