William C. Merritt “Bill”, 89, of Liverpool, passed away October 16, 2024. Survived by his children, Dawn (Phil) Dexter,William Merritt III, and Stephen (Linda) Merritt; grandchildren, Philip (Iina) Dexter, Nicole Dexter Stoldt (Bradley), and Acton Merritt; his sister Jeanne Krish (Lee), several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Fern D Merritt.
Bill achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Waterford HS and earned his bachelor’s at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was a member of the National Guard and worked at Niagara Mohawk as an electrical engineer (manager, power operations) until retirement. Bill and Fern traveled the country and slept in every US state except Alaska. They visited Europe several times and spent many years active in the United Methodist Church.
He will be missed and never forgotten.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sears Middleton Mathewson Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., North Syracuse on Tuesday, October 29 from 10:00 – 11:30am with burial to follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
