Message from Mark & Helen Atkinson - July 10, 2016 at 06:22 AM

Our sincere condolences to Homer and the entire Gere Family. Your marriage and family were a true testament to your faith and love. Thank you for modeling for the rest of us that example. Many people in the NS community learned much from you. As our first insurance man when we were teenagers, you taught us much and have all our respect and love during this very difficult time. I will never forget when our first was born, Doris made soft blocks with her name, which she has to this day, 33 years ago. Such a kind gesture that showed the beauty of her essence. Our hearts go out to the entire family. It is never easy to lose such an important person in your lives. Mark & Helen Atkinson

Message from Tom and Karin (Fistick) Trask - July 09, 2016 at 06:08 AM

To the Gere family, Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Although we never personally met Doris, her kind and generous heart and spirit shined through those whose lives she touched and influenced. My husband, my sister and I went to highschool with Laura. My sister, Christine graduated in the same class with Laura. I also worked with Laura at Lori B clothing store and attended the same college. Laura always spoke so highly of her parents and family and family unity was certainly felt. My stepfather''s father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hartshorn, knew Homer and Doris from years volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Also Gerry Duerr and family often shared about their treasured friendshup with Homer and Doris. The strength of the family and fine example of love, kindness and a humble, serving spirit has always been evident through Richard's kind words about his parents. God bless each and everyone of you with God's strength and comfort during your your time of mourning her loss. She lives on through each of you. May you treasure the sweet memories. Sincerely, Tom and Karin (Fistick) Trask

Message from Marie Sturge - July 08, 2016 at 10:08 AM

Doris had a dry sense of humor. One time when our supper club met at our home, one of the other ladies was saying how pretty everything was. Doris quipped, "you better take a good look because it will be different the next time you come". It struck me funny then and still does.Doris was her own person and preferred not being in the limelight. She was very intelligent and when she said something, you listened. I will miss her hearty laugh and her generous ways.Marie Sturge
